The Play Side was designed specifically to interrupt the cycle of math anxiety at the earliest possible stage — Grades 1 through 6 — before a child ever labels themselves "bad at math." We know that once that story takes hold, it's incredibly hard to undo. So we get there first.
Every session integrates social-emotional learning, movement, and mindfulness before the academic block. By the time your child opens their math materials, they have already laughed, connected with peers, and settled their nervous system. They arrive at content in a calm, receptive, oxygen-rich brain state — the exact conditions under which real learning sticks.

Which grades does The Play Side serve?
The Play Side serves Grades 1 through 6 — children roughly ages 6 to 12. Sessions are grouped by developmental readiness rather than strict grade level, so your child is always working alongside peers at a similar stage. A brief intake conversation helps us place each child in the right group from day one.How often should my child attend each week?
We recommend 1 to 2 sessions per week for steady, compounding progress. Consistency matters more than frequency — a child who attends reliably once a week will build far stronger habits than one who attends sporadically. We're happy to talk through what cadence fits your family's schedule during the interest list intake call.What does 'hands-on math mastery' actually look like?
It looks like children building, sorting, and reasoning — not filling out worksheets or tapping through a screen. We use physical manipulatives, logic puzzles, pattern cards, and tactile number work to bring arithmetic concepts to life. Children work through problems by constructing and discovering them, which is how deep understanding actually forms.Is this a tutoring service or a class?
The Play Side is neither a traditional tutoring session nor a large classroom. It operates as a small-group enrichment experience — boutique by design, with just enough peers to spark collaborative thinking and social learning, and few enough students that each child receives real attention. The group dynamic is a core part of what makes it work.Does my child need to be struggling in math to benefit?
Not at all. The Play Side serves the full range — from children who already love math and want deeper challenge, to those who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or behind. The session structure is built to meet children where they are emotionally and academically, so every child finds both comfort and growth in the same room.
