Math Curriculum
Grades 1–5 Foundation · SAT & Competitive Exam Prep for Middle & High School
At HomeSchool PlayLab, we believe that mastery in mathematics is the gateway to academic excellence. Our curriculum is carefully designed to build an unshakeable foundation in the elementary grades (1–5) during our morning sessions, and to propel middle and high school students toward SAT and competitive exam success during our afternoon sessions.
Every student progresses only after demonstrating true mastery of each chapter — no student is left behind, and no concept is skipped.
Our Schedule
- Morning Sessions: Grades 1–5, focused on building a deep, mastery-based foundation in arithmetic and core mathematics.
- Afternoon Sessions: Middle School and High School students, focused on SAT prep and competitive exam readiness using advanced and applied mathematics.
Grade 1 — Building Number Sense
We establish a joyful, confident relationship with numbers from day one.
- Number System: counting, place value (ones & tens), comparing numbers
- Addition: single and double-digit, carrying concepts introduced
- Subtraction: single and double-digit, borrowing concepts introduced
- Introduction to patterns and basic shapes
Grade 2 — Strengthening Arithmetic
Fluency in core operations is built through mastery-based practice.
- Addition & Subtraction: multi-digit with regrouping, mastery of number bonds
- Multiplication: concept introduction, times tables (1–5)
- Number System: place value to hundreds, odd/even numbers
- Introduction to Fractions: halves, thirds, and fourths
Grade 3 — Multiplication & Division Mastery
Students achieve deep fluency in all four core operations.
- Multiplication: full times tables (1–12), multi-digit multiplication
- Division: concept and fluency, divisibility rules
- Fractions: equivalent fractions, comparing and ordering
- Number System: place value to thousands, rounding
- Introduction to Squaring: concept of squares (1–10)
Grade 4 — Building Advanced Foundations
Students bridge arithmetic and pre-algebra concepts.
- Multiplication & Division: long division, multi-step problems
- Fractions & Decimal Fractions: addition, subtraction, converting between forms
- HCF & LCM: finding highest common factor and least common multiple
- Squaring & Cubing: squares (1–20), cubes (1–10)
- Ratio & Proportion: introduction and real-world applications
- Percentage: concept and basic calculations
Grade 5 — Pre-Algebra & Applied Math
Students are fully prepared to enter middle school math with confidence and mastery.
- Elementary Algebra: variables, simple expressions, solving one-step equations
- Fractions & Decimal Fractions: multiplication, division, mixed numbers
- Number System: integers, negative numbers, the number line
- Average, Profit & Loss, Simple Interest: real-world problem solving
- Mensuration: perimeter, area, and volume basics
- Binary System: introduction and conversion
SAT & Competitive Exam Prep — Middle & High School
Our afternoon sessions take students through every quantitative topic tested on the SAT and major competitive exams. Using Vedic Mathematics techniques alongside rigorous conceptual training, students gain both speed and accuracy. Topics are grouped below by theme.
